BIG PLUM versus STIHL pt 2

Hi FELLA'S O.K Lets get this info out .The age of the plum is "32 years old" .I have counted and recounted the rings and every double checked counting the root ring growth I was astounded that a Plum could reach this girth in such a short time . The rings are so clear you can actually see the 4 seasonal growths .Must be something in the water up hear or somebody was feeding the tree some mighty good nutrients .Cheers

After working out the age of that cherry plum I posted in another thread (Air-layering a Cherry Plum (Prunus cerasifera)), I'm actually not so surprised.

That cherry plum, lovely lichen and all, is actually about 24 years old.

Hi Fella's , well the carvings done ,i will allow it to dry a little before sanding smooth

DO you think you will see much die back after such major carving? I like the shape so far and it should make an interesting base for a future bonsai!

wow!!! alpine thats some serious carving up ! it looks sensational ! how do you say? magic in the making miyagi was saying how these wild plums can take a shallacking, we will soon see. good luck i cant wait to see branches on it !

Hi Antonio ,It does look the "Ducks Nuts" and yes it is magic in the making .I have seen wild plums run over with Dozers and splintered only to reshoot and require redozing out of the ground .This is a grafted species as the street scape trees are shooting below the graft and the flower is white whereas the tree is a pink flowering Prunus Nigra .Cheers

Hi Jamie , yes bud it has reshot . Currently training the new apex and several lower branches on one side .None of the shoot grafts took {wrong time too late}. I,m still hoping the lower right will send out a couple of shoots next season .

Love the way you have treated the 'deadwood' surfaces, I was afraid this was going to be bleached to laundry white, a look I just cant get used to. Beautiful carving, and it is really coming on well!
