repotting figs
I have already repotted most of the other natives that need it this year so now its time for the figs.
Started with the little one. I've been thinking it was time for a new pot and this one was just the right size. After warming up on that one I tackled one a little larger.
This one started as a 3 tree planting root over rock. Little did I know how fig roots grow! Very little of the rock visible now and the roots of all 3 have merged so that it just looks like a large trunk. It looks like I've left a lot of roots but that is mostly solid wood and rock left. I can't cut back any further.
This one just gets back into the old pot. The tree has had some fungal dieback in the branches and will take a bit of time for the branches to develop into something worthwhile. Might have to try some preventative sprays next year. Our January club meeting explores figs so I've left a couple to defoliate and repot as a demonstration.

I think the new pot on the first one is a winner... Works much better with your tree.

Re: repotting figs
Yes Ken. It is a PK pot. I've had it for a few years without a tree but this fig has developed enough to suit it.

Re: repotting figs
The figs I defoliated and repotted a few weeks ago have produced lots of new buds.
so now only after pictures....
New pot gives a little room for roots. I pruned a large branch on the left. Now need to develop remaining branches on that side to balance the mass on the right.
All of these ficus have thickened a lot in the past few years. The 2 smaller ones have outgrown their pots several times and had to go into larger ones. The large twin is not really a twin trunk anymore because the trunks have thickened so much that the space between them has gone.
Our last club meeting topic was figs so I took in a couple more to defoliate, prune and re-pot. I did take some before shots and edited them earlier today but both seem to have disappeared
