Azalea ID?

Hello,

My mum had bought this Azalea from the nursery in Victoria and was wondering what type it is? Not sure what else info to give.

Oh i forgot to add that it suppose to flower a bright pink colour.

Probably Indica. This is what nurseries and hardware chains tend to stock.

Without a flower you will not have much chance of identification, pink narrows it down to about 3,000 possibilities. Time of year when it flowers is another indicator.

Oh that sucks. I guess i will have to wait for it to flower. Is it ok to make a bonsai out of any species of Azalea?

Yes its totally possible. I have Satsukis and a few Indicas. Treat them the same. Indicas leaves are bigger but they still do a very good bonsai...

Most can make good bonsai,
The Japanese ones we often see are Satsuki (May) in Japan they flower in May in Australia more likely to flower in November. These are not the easiest because a November heatwave can often spoil the flowers quickly.
Indica are likely to have originated in India and are likely to flower in Sept/Oct
Karume are also common.
Wiki suggests that there are over 10000 cultivars.

How about just update this one?

Azalea are a fave of mine and can make awesome bonsai.

specimines with larger leaves should be made into larger sized bonsai and those with smaller leaves make excellent Mame or Shohin sizes.
