banksia bending advice needed

Post by Gerard »

I am attempting a "serious bend" on a banksia marginata.
Has anyone tried? Clamps reo bar etc.
In the past I have bent branches down slightly and found that the bark on the top of the branch near the trunk will show lots of stress cracks but they seem to heal fairly quickly.
The current project I will make a 'V' cut between two branches and use clamps to close the cut and bring the branches closer together. Perhaps not a wise plan but I will proceed unless someone tells me of the dangers.
Q: Why are we all here?
A: Because we are not all there.

I know from personal experience that banksia serrata branches can snap with bending quite easily Gerard.

Bending has been done (for now) results are pleasing, half way up the tree the main trunk fell towards the back making this view less desirable as the front. These pictures are all taken after the bending was completed, the apex has been moved about 15cm to the front
