It's pleasing to see that we have some registrations this week. It's going to be a brilliant a refused bonsai weekend.

Remember to book for Koji's Setting Up Your Exhibition Programme on Friday 15 May. It's an activity not previously offered in Australia and should help to improve club shows for all those who attend. So often bonsai are crammed in, when we should have space, flow and other design elements that showcase our little trees. I am confident that, together with Friday lunch, you'll be skilled up following Koji's Programme.

Please remember that the Monday observers are able to move between Koji and Tony Bebb's workshops on Monday morning AND between Koji and Joe Morgan-Payler's workshops on Monday afternoon. THERE ARE STILL POSITIONS AVAILABLE FOR KOJI's MONDAY AFTERNOON SESSION ... but you'll need to be quick.

Enjoy the Easter break, hope you're doing lots bonsai!!!

I have just been informed that I can take and bring back my tree, just have to jump some hurdles and dive though some hoops, but it can be done.
AQUIS, changed the rules in 2013 ( I only just found out ) so they are sending though the forms by Email. So looks like it is a goer, if you do the right thing after all. Get in touch with the right people and not the Department of Agriculture WA!!!. Commonwealth department of AG.

Any way wait for the forms . Then do the dance.

Is this between WAS and SA only or nationally?
Can we WA Bonsai enthusiasts buy a tree from any state now and bring it home?

that is something to find out.my circumstances are that mt tree my Soil,less than one week,has something to do with it.cheers pup

First hurdle jumped now just wait. Was told I should have the reply by next weekend, one way or tother.

Fingers and toes very much crossed for Derek!!!

It's now just over 4 weeks until Adelaide ... the countdown is here!!!

I can't believe that there is so little time ... and just until the end of the month for people who are late registrants; what's the opposite of an 'early-bird' I wonder?

Rooms are still available at The Hotel Grand Chancellor on Hindley ... but I would recommend phoning the hotel direct and speaking with reservations, mention it is for the bonsai convention and you should be able to take advantage of the special room rate ... although rooms are not guaranteed at this late stage in booking.

Looking forward to seeing you all in Adelaide ... all pretty exciting now!!!

YEEHAA got my permit to bring my tree back with me. So I will now have to work out how to package it as it has to be carry on. So that it can be inspected when landing to make it easier, I could put in my checked baggage but look how they handle them, carry on it is.

Who's a happy camper Pup is.

Brilliant news Derek!

Some things are worth persisting with, the hurdles of quarantine and navigating red tape are partof the bonsai adventure.

For others who have not yet booked ... the countdown is on. You need to register by 1 May, after that it will be hit and miss due to catering demands.

For people who have registered, but not for a Friday activity ... the Adelaide Hills Garden Tourvis a wonderful opportunity to visit Sophie Thompson, be personally guided through her 'patch' (Hamley Cottage, as seen on her segments on ABC Gardening Australia) and share coffee and goodies made from produce grown in her garden. The visit to Heysen's home, studio and garden will be inspiring also ... we have boomed two large buses and can accommodate more people on this program ...

Perhaps the full-day in the hills is too much? Why not register for Koji's Setting Up the Exhibition programme ... which includes lunch? So much valuable information to take home and put into practice at your own club!

Are you planing on capturing any/all on videos? Might almost be worthwhile paying for a professional to capture this information for resale... Even if people get to join in, not all of us have photographic memories...

It was a toss up between the the friday workshop or the bus tour. I would of loved to do them both. But the workshop won. Shame never been to Adelaide before.

A convention where participants are spoilt for choice! A tough call ... Koji Setting up exhibition and Display or Adelaide Hills with morning/afternoon coffee/tea with ABC gardening guru Sophie Thompson.

At least there will be opportunity to share experiences over meals, welcome reception or dinner.

We will not be having a DVD ... the last DVD was Adelaide in 2008. There's too much involved in this. We will have a cd of the exhibition.

I'm really looking forward to working with Koji Hirimatsu in the 2 workshops. I think I've chosen my stock to work on and will hopefully come out of it with a couple of credible shohin. I've just got to package them up securely so they will be safe on the flight over and back again. Koji really is a shohin Master and I'm hoping to learn as much as possible!

The first is a Juniper chinesis 'Shimpaku' that I purchased from Bonsai Art in 2012 when the convention was in Melbourne. It's got a pretty good base, a twist in the trunk and some deadwood on branches and the trunk from some previous work I did.

The other is a Black Pine that I purchased from John Dorahy at the last AusBonsai Market day. John had been growing this one for around 20 years and has got really nice bark. As with most of John's tree's, there is some radical movement in the trunk. There are also lots of branches to work with. My thoughts are that it would make a great literati from the first branch on the left but I'm going to go with what ever the master wants to do (and teach me).

Tien from Bonsai Sensation will be one of the traders at the convention and I know he is bringing lots of material with him so I might even find something there that would make a better workshop tree.

Looking forward to a beer or 2 with bonsai mates from around the country in only 10 days time.
