Acer Palmatum 'Summer Gold' - nurseries selling?

Post by Truth »

The summer gold cultivar is a hardy tree that features a light green leaf in spring, golden yellow in summer and bright yellow in Autumn. Furthermore, it is very hardy to heat and humid conditions. It sounds like an excellent cultivar for use in Australia, but do any nurseries have appropriate stock? I haven't found anything after some googling. :?:

Give Ray Nesci a call, I'm trying to get a hardy dissectum maple but it will be around winter till he has stock. He also grows his own trees as well.
Kind Regards

I was there just a few days ago! Picked up what's hopefully going to be a cool deshojo. I'll make my way around another day and spend a bit more time picking his brain.

In a 22cm nursery pot for $35. It's more like a shrub at the moment, but it needs some thickening up before I start to train it.

Your description sounds like the "Shidava Gold". Its an australian cultivar.

Hi Paul,

After a quick bit of research I am led to believe they are very different cultivars. The 'shidava gold' being a dwarf tree with green stems, and the 'summer gold' growing to over 6m unrestricted with red stems.

Regardless, thanks for the help :tu:

Ok. . Sounds like summer gold would be pretty.

I have a shidava gold and it does have green stems. Its also heat hardy and vigourous in growth. Wasn't aware it was considered a dwarf.

Thanks for the clarification.
