Mauro Stemberger at Illawarra Bonsai Society club night
Hi to bonsai lovers,
Mauro Stemberger from Italy will be at Illawarra Bonsai Society's club meeting night on the 15th June to help us celebrate the club's 45th anniversary. Doors will be open at 6.15pm for a prompt 7pm start. The cost to non-members will be $10 and a special supper will be supplied. There will be raffle prizes, a tree display, and a special birthday cake that Mauro will help us to cut. He will be doing a great demo and the tree will be raffled at the end of the night for just $5 a ticket. We hope to have enough seating on the night but to make sure put a fold up chair in the car - just in case.
Mauro proved to be a very personable and a very talented bonsai artist so you must try to come along to see for yourself.
The address of the club is Gymea Bay Community Hall, Gymea Bay Road, Gymea. (Directions: Get into Gymea Bay Road and park somewhere in that road. Next to the hotel there is a small park and the hall is in that park about 50mts from the road.
We will also be having workshops at Bonsai South Nursery on the Tuesday (already booked out) and Wednesday (vacancies still exist on this day), starting at 9 - 9.30am with a barbecue lunch provided. Please phone me, Brenda on 0412 384 834 if you would like to be in the workshop on the Wednesday. The cost for the day will be $100 so bring a good tree along (or buy something from the nursery) and get a tree superbly designed by Mauro. Bring along all of your own tools, wire etc.
We hope to see some bonsai enthusiasts who either don't belong to a club or who didn't attend Bonsai by the Harbour on the club's birthday night or participating in the workshops on the Wednesday.
Try to take this fabulous opportunity of seeing a master in action and that will save you heaps of money as you don't have to travel to Italy to see Mauro in action.
Hope to see some of you there on the night,
Brenda

It appears Mauro will be working in Australia for about a month. It would be nice to see all the photos under the same heading "Mauro Stemberger 2015 in Australia" and encourage members to put it all in one place.
Q: Why are we all here?
A: Because we are not all there.

Most of the trees I have are pretty well styled so I decided to go to Bonsai South and get another stock tree for the workshop. Ended up coming home with this weapon!
Cleaned it out today. Will be good to see what Mauro comes up with....
My GF is going to kill me...
Edit: AHHH why do the photos rotate!
Ill have to change them later. Sorry gtg!

He spends his life styling conifers. These grow well in Sydney and I like them. I'm sure it will be fine....John Henry wrote:Not another Juniper for Mauro![]()

Re: Mauro Stemberger at Illawarra Bonsai Society club night
I'm sorry John but I think thats a bit out of line, someone posts great stock that they are excited about having a fantastic artist work with them on and the first response is "another juniper".....John Henry wrote:Not another Juniper for Mauro![]()

No prob, i suppose you would have preferred that he chose one of the other 30yr old peices of raw material that we have soo much of in this country

I was at bonsai south on friday and if I hadn't been as lucky as I was with what I was able to purchase I would have been working on a juniper with Mauro as well,
Why? Because it would give him the best possible opportunity to give me the best tree I could come away with, even if it was "another juniper". I'm also sure that Mauro likes working on good trees, whether they be native (to his, or any country) or not.
It seems that as far as we still have to come with our skill in this country, we have further to go with our attitude

I didn't like any of the trunks on the available Shimpakus. The one I got is full of natural deadwood so I went for that. Not many other options because I don't care for pines.....
