Variegated Pussy Willow

Post by Bonsaiforest »

Not sure of what variety of pussy willow .... Have heard that there are many( just know that it's not the weeping variety). There are quite a few at my local nursery Some of the with great bases, twisted trunks & branches. Was going to pick one up but the owner wasn't there and I wasn't able to ask all of the desired questions. Hard to find stuff on the net as to whether there suitable for bonsai.

If any one has any experience in the field of pussy willow bonsai then please post. Also if any of you have pics It'd be great to see them...!

Cheers

Funny ... Not really sure about the name just copied it from the name tag on the pot. Not sure where the Variegated came from but it was there so I wrote it down

Pussy willow refers to the species that have furry male flowers. I have not seen the variegated ones but the standard form comes up in my pots as a weed. Occasionally I pot some up to grow on hoping they may be ok as bonsai. So far no real great results. The trunk s look ok after a few years but they do not ramify very well. Also tend to have branches die back quite a bit but I have not tried keeping them in water to see if that makes any difference.
