Matt Reel coming to Australia?!?

Soooo...I have heard that Matt and a friend might be coming to Australia to do some presentations/workshops. Anyone know any details as I'd be keen to make the trip to work with him?

Man if Mike comes ill move mountains to get to that workshop. Was going to get down to vic for Bjorn but the fact that the workshops are 3hrs meant that travel wasnt worth it, bummer though as it would have been amazing.

I also think that America's approach and their separation from the pre-conceived notions of bonsai could benefit us immensely...

The only thing ''holding back'' bonsai in this country is the on going problem of lack of good material.
Also, as far a demos and workshops are concerened (whether imported or local), although they are very important, they have a limit to their effectiveness beyond which only the experience of working with a lot of trees and high repetition will increase knowledge and technique. In other words a beginner will/can gain just as much from a slightly more advanced practitioner as they would from a master. Whereas a highly practiced individual gains only little from watching a master shape a tree. However, it all adds up in the end.
My point? To learn how to wire well (for example) you need to wire a lot. It's a mistake to think that going to lots of demos will alone teach you much..

I recently (2 months ago) returned from an 8 year apprenticeship with my master Shinji Suzuki.
It was an honor and great privilege learning from one of the best in the business and I continue to wonder how I got so lucky, but luck turned into hard work and now it is beginning to pay off here in California

Many of you may not know of him, but he is an American Bonsai artist, than has spent 8 years as an apprentice with Shinji Suzuki in Japan.
He is now very active in the American Bonsai Community since moving back from Japan, and like many before him, I am sure that his name will become well known in the future.

Ps Shinji Suzuki - known for a more naturalistic approach to Bonsai rather than the usual super-refined style we see in Japan. Consistently wins awards for his tree's too.

If we cannot get Suzuki, we'll just get Subaru!... I mean Matt...
