Hi all,

This is a grafted Scots pine that I purchased in Melbourne 10 or 12 years ago.

I sold it a few years ago but bought it back in May.

The branches had been cut off but not jinned and there were two major masses of foliage on the two remaining branches. The needles are really tiny.

Anyhow I did the work during this week and finished it off today. Still needs a bit more apex but spring growth will take care of that.

Very nice tree there Grant. The graft is very well done. Once it fills out it should will be a superb tree. I really like the pot too.

Made in Melbourne by? can't remember at the moment. Down near Sorrento; near the current end of the freeway.

Another reason to venture down into God's Country, there is such a glutton of ridiculously good Golf courses down there. The National, Sorrento, Portsea, etc etc etc.....not to mention the fine nectar of bacchus of the area

I like this tree, it tells a story. Once it fills out as Josh said, it will only look better. In many years down the track, I can see the lower branch being jinned and perhaps potted slightly to the right (but we all see things differently). The pot is fantastic and compliments the tree well.

Look forward to seeing progress from here.

Update.

After spring growth and moved to a slightly larger pot made by the same potter.

Next year the new buds should be much smaller as the number of branches and buds multiply without any special techniques. With special techniques Scots pine can be made to bud back on wood up to 5 or 6 years old but I will wait till the tree is more established before getting too adventurous.

Next year I will also hold off fertilising the tree in early spring to keep the growth short and then feed once the new growth is hardened off; but this year was all about getting the tree nicely set up style wise.

No. I bought it as nursery stock about 10 years ago and sold it about 7 years ago before I moved to Canberra. I bought it back this year. It had been moved to a much smaller pot and bits chopped off here and there; and in a few mad moments its was done and wired, trimmed etc etc etc without photos. It happens.

Hi Grant,
I've been off the air for a little while( iPad injury). Looked at this post with interest. If it was on my bench I'd lift the lower branch a bit more horizontal, bring apex a little forward and tilt the trunk to the left but not to much
