Jacaranda Advice

Post by bouquet »

Hi all

I was given this Jacaranda tree and I was looking for some advice on the best way ahead with it. I haven't had one of these types of trees before and was just looking for some advice.

Cheers

First up they will not flower as bonsai, because we keep chopping those bits off :-).
they are very robust and take all sorts of treatment so do not be too kind on them
I would chop at the lowest branch then wire the new shoots before they lignify to get some movement in them.
rinse and repeat to get taper and movement, then grow branches

I question the suitability of Jacaranda as bonsai given the compound leave structure and size. Any thoughts on this? Good luck all the same.

The leaves reduce well and as can be seen in my progression, I think they are a great tree to use.
unusual yes, but that is no reason not to use them
