Cuphea hyssopifolia??

Post by brodoyouevenbonsai »

Image

Hi all. Very new to bonsai and the forum so any advice is appreciated.
My Cuphea hyssopifolia needs a big root prune to bring down size although worried I might kill it lol.
Please ignore rookie wiring :( and it was recently attacked by a pet rabbit hence the heavily trimmed on sides.
Has anyone got one of or have experience with these.
Thanks in advance. Chris

Hi

I've been playing with them.

Main issue is trunk thickening
And lots of basal dominance

Here's one of them:

I'll try to take a recent shot later

Thanks for reply. The trunk on mine has doubled since I got it from nursery stock. Guess I have been lucky there. Do you think I should cut the canopy down so it fits the tree more.
Thanks

Chris - firstly welcome to Ausbonsai.
I think the height is OK at the moment, but I wouldn't let it get any larger at this stage. Keep plugging away as they all take time.
