Olive graft

Post by dan.fisher92 »

Has anyone had any experience with thread grafts on a olive? Would I be safe to assume nothing out of the ordinary? Also when would be the best time to try?
Regards in advance Daniel

I have done a few thread grafts on olives, but have not had one take yet. I have no idea why this is so, because olives are routinely grafted for fruiting purposes. I have left threads up to 2 years before severing and still lost the graft.

As for the leaves. Have a look on the underside and I think you might find a mite family living there. I have one olive in the back yard the mites just seem to love. Olives either side don't seem to be bothered with them - go figure.

Thanks Graeme
You are correct there are many mites that have made their home on the underside of the leaves, is it anything to worry about? What can I do?

Dan, that olive looks properly sick mate. It needs some care to protect against insects. You need to identify the pest, but I use Siezer 100 for mites, and Koinor for sap-sucking nasties?
