JBP - informal upright to semi-cascade

Hi,

Managed to pick this tree up towards end of last year, and immediately had the vision of the tree being converted to semi-cascade. The venture began to build a pot for the tree in time for spring. Bought myself a lump of clay and proceeded to make a crescent pot, was very happy with the result. Unfortunately with the drying process before firing, the pot started ripping itself apart, as different pieces started to dry quicker than others Lessons learnt, now to find another 10 hours to make another.

Then while contemplating my lack of container and approaching spring, noticed this post on FB couple weeks back where a guy called Damian was hollowing out rocks, and immediately knew that this would be perfect. Contacted Damian and he made me a pot to spec. Re-potted the tree and styled yesterday, the tree and pot were made for each other

Much better and great vision to see something different by thinking laterally (literally). We don't see enough semi-cascade pines in my opinion - love them. Looks like you have plenty of buds/branches to choose from and develop your structure.

May look different in the flesh, but you could consider losing the thicker upper section of the old trunk and make the drop cascading branch the new main trunk line. The old main trunk line looks a bit thick and makes a straight lateral line which takes away a little from the desired cascade effect.

Just wondering why you chose the front you did instead of the opposite side?

Both look good to me but I'm just a beginner trying to get some insight.

A lot of effort in the photography. I like the stand aswell- is it walnut?

JimmyBanks - if you look at the top view, you will see the cascading branch moves towards the viewer, it is not that clear if you look at the photo of the front view. Still have a lot of work and shaping to do, and probably open out a little more, is currently too direct. The rock is good all around, I liked the left corner of the current front, as a result decided to pick this as the front. With time the rock will age, and have even more character.

mjhc - have no idea what the stand is made from, I've had this stand for ages.
