Elmar, search for your location here: http://www.wunderground.com/
Wunderground tends to have more weather station feeds than the BOM, I think they take feeds from privately owned stations so you may get lucky and have a feed from nearby. I have one from a neighbouring suburb so I know it's pretty close to what the conditions are in my backyard.

Re: OpenSprinkler bonsai project
A better option if you don't have a nearby station reporting weather, get one and send the data to Wunderground, it will then be accessible by your OpenSprinkler unit and anyone else in the area who needs it

Haha yer Jase, but there's just one thing missing - knowledge!
Actually make that 2 things - time as well.
I did look into a couple of external input devices and think I referenced them in another thread about this system... can't remember...
Cheers

Re: OpenSprinkler bonsai project
@Elmar, we have the capability to interface with sensors as there are a few analog and digital pins that maybe used for this however the software does not really support this at this time. As @JaseH suggested, you maybe obtain a weather station and link it to Weather Underground which will provide your OpenSprinkler with all the data/sensors it would need without having to manage the firmware and directly attaching sensors.
Thanks!
Thanks!

Whats your postcode Elmar? Did you check if there was already a weather station near you on Weather Underground? If there is then you can tell OpenSprinkler to use this for your weather data.Elmar wrote:Haha yer Jase, but there's just one thing missing - knowledge!

Setting up a personal weather stations shouldn’t be that difficult or time consuming but they are a bit pricey.

My Post code is 6722, South Hedland and, as far as I can tell we only have the BoM site up here... not as advanced as you fellas in the East!JaseH wrote:Whats your postcode Elmar? Re: OpenSprinkler bonsai project
Jase,
Sorry I didn't reply sooner, that's awesome, thank you! While I did go to the 'Wunderground' site it originally only showed me he BOM site. Have since changed to the SH site! Much better...
A friend of mine has recently bought a Raspberry Pi 2 (he's a teacher and uses it for his class as the kids are made about Mine craft!) and is playing around with Minecraft programming and I've been looking over his shoulder... Not looking as hard as I thought...
While I won't be a programmer of any note for a loooong time I am starting to see the benefits of this system. I hope those that are programmers using this would be open to sharing their knowledge to the lesser troglodytes on this forum... Wink wink, nudge nudge...
Cheers

Re: OpenSprinkler bonsai project
No worries Elmar - that's the beauty of open-source, everything is free and open for anyone to use, modify and adapt. I'm relatively new to Python programming myself so this project is a bit of a learning exercise. I have experience programming in other languages though.Elmar wrote: While I won't be a programmer of any note for a loooong time I am starting to see the benefits of this system. I have to get back onto this now the weather is warming up, I got distracted for a while by couple of projects for my real job!

OpenSprinkler bonsai project
Yer, I find work interferes with my hobbies, too! But I'd rather be working than not, especially now!JaseH wrote:...

I look forward to your contribution... While I try to learn basic programming online (love that about Python).
