2015 Canberra Bonsai Show 10-11 October

Post by JenniferM »

Hi All

Graham's recent post has reminded me that I haven't posted details of our Annual Show yet!

As usual, it's being held on the second weekend in October (10 & 11). This is the last weekend of Floriade - so Canberrans and vistors can get a double dose of botanical art!

Full details are on the CBS website http://www.cbs.org.au/exhibition

We are in a new venue this year - we've moved to Canberra Grammar School, 40 Monaro Crescent in Red Hill. The main entrance is up a flight of stairs (sorry - no lifts - this is a heritage 1930's building :o ) BUT there is at-level ramp access at the rear of the building for those not able to do stairs :D - see the maps on the website for direction.

Registrations for the display are just starting to come in so I can't tell you what going to be on display yet, but will et you know closer to the day.

The Sales area is looking good.

We have five vendors this year
- Graham with his pots
- Leigh Taafe who is still clearing his commercial stock
- Grant Bowie with imported pots, wire and some advanced bonsai
- Shibui Nursery - Neil will be bringing his normal array of plants, and for the first time
- Bonsai World Nursery - Ash will be coming down from Jilliby - look forward to seeing you here Ash!

The CBS members sales table is looking good as well, with expected items for sale including a large number of pots from an ex member's collection (possibly including some early imported and Australian pots), and around 40 starter plants propagated by one of our members (will post details later if I get them) as well as the normal array of plants, books, pots brought in by members.

We're again running Bonsai Basic sessions for newcomers at 10am and 1 pm, and demonstrations at 11am and 2pm each day. Will post details when we've finalised the schedule.

So a busy weekend coming up, and a great chance to stock up on bonsai essentials!

Hope to see lots of visitors there... particularly looking forward to seeing the folk from the School of Bonsai again!

Cheers

Jennifer

Anyone else going?

If anyone sees an average height nerdy looking bloke with brown hair walking around with a short blonde girl, that'd be me and the missus.

I don't trust Bonsai, they are a little shady.

Looking forward to getting back to Canberra again this year. Plenty of new field grown trees and smaller starters available.
If anyone has any special requests let me know early - before I pack the ute and head up the highway.

Come and introduce yourself at the Shibui sales tables Jarad. :)

Well it's less than a week to the show...and all seems to be going well - so far anyway :fc: We're looking forward to seeing lots of people there.

For those interested in the Bonsai Basics sessions the schedule is:
- 10 am Saturday - Wiring with WayneD
- 1pm Saturday - Styling with Dane B
- 10 am Sunday - Maintenance with Mike W
- 1 pm Sunday - Repotting with Phil R.

These are a great introductory sessions - so come along if you are new to bonsai, or are thinking you might like to try it.

Cheers

Well the trees are on their benches, the vendors have all their stock in, and the CBS sales tables are groaning with all the items that have come in....

Set-up is finished and JohnL is just finishing the photos for the post-show gallery.

It's been a loooooong day, but worth it. It's a great display of members skills and artistic ability :tu:

Looking forward to seeing everyone over the weekend, particularly the intrepid visitors from up north, and those from Sydney.

Thanks Andrew.

It was a great weekend from our perspective and great to meet the travelling visitors. Thanks to all our vendors too.

For those who couldn't make it, we'll be posting photos of all the trees on the website later this week (hopefully).

Till next year!

Plenty of stock for everyone at Canberra this year. As well as the club trading table loaded with bargains from members we had 5 commercial vendors with plants, pots and bonsai supplies.
