South Australian Bonsai Society Annual Show

Post by Bek »

Hi all! This weekend is the SA Bonsai Society Annual Show, with plenty of trees on display as well as fully stocked trading tables. Here are a few photos I took today
Apologies for the photo quality of a few - took them with my phone and don't have the most steady of hands! I didn't get photos of them all either, so hopefully some other members will post more photos.

Thanks for the photos Bek. I was interested to see that the bottle brush was already in flower, that is a lot earlier than here.

Yeah they're in full bloom here (the street trees) and have been for a couple of weeks I reckon.

The flowering times intrigue me. I have one that finished flowering 3-4 weeks ago and 2 others that are only just forming now. Many of the street trees I have seen lately are in flower. This is Northern Rivers NSW.

Different species naturally flower at different times. Our local C. sieberii flowers late Nov- Dec but other species flower earlier in spring so flower time will depend what species and which variety you have.
Of course if you grow the same variety in different parts of the country flowering time will also depend on local climate. Smaller local micro-climates may also change when a particular variety flowers in a certain part of any town or city.
