A very big pine

Hey folks,

This is a pine I have been sitting on for about a year now. I purchased this tree about this time last year to work on with Ryan Neil when he was over last December. This work consisted of setting the structure and marking out areas for grafts for the future. I then put the tree aside in a sunny spot and left it to it's own devices for the majority of this year, watering about 1-2 times per week owing to it's massive tub

About a month ago I set some grafts and it looked as though 2 of the 4 would take but today I went out and had a look at what I would do once they took hold and decided that the grafted branches would not be able to marry up with the branch angles of the rest of the tree, and that while starting high up the trunk, the branches that were already there would suffice, so I removed all the surplus branches and did the first fine work on what was left.

It is still bare bones but it will only take a couple of years to get some bulk into the pads and it will be well on its way

Next step is to work on getting some back budding and build the pads up but for now I am happy with where it is at

Wow Kez!

You sure know how to get your hands on some crazy, beastly stock! I love it!

Mighty jealous. Such a strong lower trunk, it will look great with a bit of back budding and filling out in the seasons to come.

Hard to tell from a 2D picture but the lower right branch looks quite straight? Are you able to get a bit more movement into it so it doesn't run so parallel with the branch above? Just seems to stand out to me with the left branches having more movement in comparison. (Please don't take my thoughts the wrong way )
