Small bonsai exhibit @ The University of Newcastle

Post by hugh grant »

poster.jpg
I will be having a small, 2 day exhibit featuring featuring 3 separate trees. The exhibition titled "Bonsai - A Contextual and Cultural Study", aims to explore bonsai within a contemporary Australian context whilst commenting on the cultural influences that can be transcribed within the making and display of the tree. The exhibition will feature basic and simplistic display containing a combination of form and text to immerse the viewer in the display through its purpose and intent.

Where: AT building foyer, The University of Newcastle, Callaghan, NSW.
When: Wednesday 4th & Thursday 5th November 2015
9am - 4pm

I will be at the University on both days the trees are on show, however i may or may not be directly in the building the whole time so if you would like to catch up or have a chat! id love to do so! Either send me a PM here prior to the day or on the day give me a buzz on 0429195514.

Hugh

I enjoyed it so did my 4 yo son even the wife was impressed with the Mel and the repurposed casserole dish. Also found it appropriate that these two sculptures are just outside.

Ducked in for a quick look this arvo and was blown away by Hugh's eye for detail.

First of all, his stands and placement of the trees at hip to chest height, although a trivial thing it makes a world of difference. Especially for anyone over 5'.

His trees are fantastic in their current state and will only get better. He does native bonsai a solid favour by showing his mel stripped and refined . Its good for anyone wanting to learn the secrets behind meticulous branch and foliage placement.

Top job H.G. 10/10 would spectate again, good luck with your other show!!!!

Last week my exhibition "Bonsai: a Contextual and cultural study" was held at the University of Newcastle. The exhibition featured 3 separate trees all commenting on the idea of cultural idea of bonsai in Australia and how they may be examined and visualised.
Thank you to all whom attended, i hope you enjoyed it.
Here are pictures of the event, enjoy!
