Post by melmelmel86 »

I don't know what species they are but we have had them for 2 years with no issues. Any advice appreciated !

too much, or not enough water will kill them for sure. Better for you to join a local bonsai society and they will help you.

I would follow Brians advice about a club if you can get to one.

Do you have any photos? It will assist in a diagnosis.

I don't trust Bonsai, they are a little shady.

Have you repotted?
After a few years you can have a pot with lots of roots and very little soil, these will dry out very quickly
Q: Why are we all here?
A: Because we are not all there.

Post some pics - we should be able to determine the species. Location as in where you live is important, as is where you keep the bonsai. Also a description of your watering habits will also help.

That's a bit like phoning a doctor you don't know, saying that you are sick, and asking what you should take to get better. Bit difficult for the doctor to answer without seeing you.

Hi all,
Thanks for responses.
Phone wont let me upload pics.
My partner most definitely over watered them once he thought they were dying which killed one of them. Found a local guy who said to re pot them sonwe have done that with both (partner thinks it will come back alive haha).

Repotting a sick tree is one of the ways to kill them too!

The photos wont up load as they are to large unfortunately this forum only lets you post small size pics. If you can choose what mega pix your phone shots at drop it to its lowest setting or take a super large excessive back ground shot and crop hard.

I guess the question is how badly do you want to save it. You are correct on the first one. It is toast. Nice pot though.

The second one is looking scruffy, not semi-dead. At least not to me. Your best way to try to improve its health is to get your watering correct and get it in a location that gets morning sun, but protection from the sun in the hottest time of the day. You also need to establish whether it has any pests. Can you post a close up of the foliage? Get a piece of white paper and hold it under the foliage. Flick the foliage with your fingers so that some bits fall onto the paper. Look closely. Can you see any of those bits moving? If so, and they are about half the size of a printed full stop you have a mite problem.

To me though this tree looks like it just needs a feed and some proper care.

Cheers

Id agree top one is goneski but if the partner wants to hold on and hope id give them both a dunk and soak in a weak seasol water mix. And follow above advice. Followed by trying to dind a local club if possible for more specific care advice with some one hands on.

Great thanks! We did a seasol dunk before repotting. He still has faith haha. Ok awesome. Somewhere with morning sun and not the really hot midday arvo sun we get. Cheers all!
