I know the tree but can't figure the name.
It is a common Melbourne Street Tree that has these furry little balls that drop all over the place and are highly allergenic and spread like dust all over the Streets of Melbourne.
Also has anyone else had a go at potting them up as a Bonsai.
I have finally found (2) that have shallow roots..Over the past year or so I have been digging 100's out on a huge rubble pile at work and all up until these (2) have had tap roots that go down many feet and are impossible to find lateral root growth even with a tree 10 inches tall.
These pair were in a rather moist rocky part of the pile and dug out with all roots attached.
Steve.

Re: ID Please
Yep, plane tree for sure.
I have one outside my house that has resulted in heaps of seedlings popping up in my bonsai over the last month or so... the seeds from these things are rampant! I just pull them out - never really thought of using them, will be interested to see how you go making a bonsai out of one!

I'm sure this is tongue in cheek Rintar
Thanks for the replies.
Plane Tree is it.
They have been planted as 'street trees since 'colonial day's' and as I have researched since I posted once they find an area that suits go feral with seedlings.
I have shown an interest in trying to get some as in many mature trees the bark has great colour blotching and massive Nabari structure when contained in restricted conditions such as streets scape planting.
One is only 10 inches tall with the other around 2 feet.
I will pot them straight up in a couple of spare pots as if for display..(nothing fancy at this stage)
The taller one once growing will get an airlay if pruning won't help reduce height .
Thanks again.
Steve
