New Pots

Post by Bretts »

Got my pots out of the kiln yesterday. I still have a long way to go but there is the odd good one ;)
I work with potters that don't mind some movement so I have to find my own way when it comes to stopping that. I have started to dry them really slowly and although no one else uses bats under their work I will have to start following other bonsai potters by doing so.

A nice oval to start
pot1.jpg
Bit too much movement in this one but I think I will find a use for it. I love this straw glaze.
pot2.jpg
This was another of my first attempts at the crack effect. It had lots of movement even before it started drying but I am happy with the rustic finish.
Oh and if you look close at the base you will see where I have tried to cover up the base that was added from the bottom with little squiggly lines to replicate the cracks. It was much more obvious before glazing so I am happy.

LOL Do you mean the brown green one with cracks? I have one more of that glaze and have to think hard what I did(I know I should take notes Kitoi  )
I believe that is a matt green glaze over an oxide wash with a little glaze in with it.

I will have to get working if I am handing out chrissy presents

A freeform that should have had a different Glaze
pot8.jpg
The above one and this one are made from paper clay basicly just clay with paper added it increases strenght and makes it lighter. Funny stuff to work with but I haven't given up on it yet. I did not keep the oxide wash that had a small amount of glaze in it away from the feet good enough so it stuck to the bat and lost bits of it's feet.
pot9.jpg
Not keen on how this glaze came out maybe it will look better if I can get rid of the shine?

Another paper clay pot and because I gave it the same under oxide wash glaze it's feet also stock to the bat but not as much
pot12.jpg
This one was a real pity as I love this glaze. This is why I started pottery in the first place because I could not find a pot with this style glaze locally I thought I would have a go at making them myself. I wonder if I can still find a tree to go with it

This is a great chunky pot and although I still like it alot it is let down a little by the dull oxide wash. I was trying to get the cracks to stand out more. I would be tempted to try something else and re-fire
pot15.jpg
Saved my favourite for last. Not sure if I can replicate the green tinge in the drip glaze not sure where it came from.
