As Ken has said you could take it off now. There are sufficient roots for the tree to take quite well. After you cut it off, soak it in a bucket of Seasol mixed at the normal ratio. Leave it in the bucket for an hour. Give it a gentle up and down motion every now and then to see if any of the moss come out. If the moss doesn't come out, don't worry about that, it is important not to damage the roots by trying to remove the moss. You can plant it with all the moss if you want. When it's time to repot you will find that the roots have matured a lot more and the moss will tend to come away naturally. Make sure you put some stays on the tree to prevent any movement of the roots. They are very fragile and can be damaged very easily.

Re: Ficus air layer
Thank you, it is a tiger bark fig, and noticed it has fruit on the top along with lots of growth both above and below the layer.
I will pot it up in the next few days.

When you remove the layer, remove the fruit from the layer. Fruit and flowers all take extra energy from the tree. After the new layer is established as a tree you can then let it fruit if you so desire.
