Gday Duckbed,
Got a few of these as tube stock last year...so my knowledge on them isn't exactly comprehensive but...
Was told they are slow growers, but I have had mixed results. Of the 7 I have some have taken off to almost 1m tall with plenty of shoots, while others have grown but maybe only 20-30cm in height, all have thrown new growth from areas that have been trimmed back.
After I repotted from tubes (this time last year) I had some mild dieback in random spots on most of them. I did some experimentation in cutting back roots on some, while slip potting others. It didn't seem to change the amount of die back experienced - none of it was excessive, but just so you know.
Webbing caterpillars in new growth are the major pest I have found that affect them, and possums in my area love them (but they eat everything here!)
Plenty of sun and water. Not much growth over winter but this time of year they are producing a lot of new growth. I have cautiously fertilised a few of them to see what happens, hasn't had any detrimental effect so far but it's early days.
I have mine in reasonably well draining mix, nothing special and they seem to find it OK... no need for anything customised for my money.
Good luck with yours, it's a beauty - lovely trunk. My favourite native by far. Keep posting the progress, love to see how it is going.
