Multi trunk shimpaku
Update of BBTH demo in 2006; just before i moved to Canberra and then had no time to scratch with the launching and running of the NBPCA.
Retired from the job in May 2013 and now have more time to work on my trees.
It was very large, extended nursery stock in 2006 and has been gradually compacted and neglected over a few years. Last photo was 2013.
Currently working to now pad up and bulk up etc.

Re: Multi trunk shimpaku
Great stock Grant and has a great future. The back trunk needs something done to it at the top, maybe bowed forward some. it jars at the moment. probably a bit thick but some raffia and a brace could create some movement. I would not mind it to work on though.

It can be hard to tell from a photo of course, but I am inclined to agree with bodhi.
There is much movement downwards and to the left, but my eyes tend to go more to the tallest section of the tree, which feels conflicting. Nice juniper all the same. Will look forward to seeing it in the future.

After roughly 20 years of growing bonsai, I reckon I might just be starting to get the hang of it...

I don't want to bend it down the very top any further as I think it would look silly. Probably need to get some more movement into a few places here and there and bulk up the pads; especially down low where they are a bit thin looking.

Re: Multi trunk shimpaku

Looks fairly epic to me!
One of the fabulous things about growing bonsai is as you get old and decrepit your trees get old and beautiful

Would be proud to have something similar on my benches-------Thoughts only ,for what it's worth--I would reduce the rh jin to about one third-- shorten to a long stub and jin the lowest trunk(to open it up a little and clear the pot rim)-change one of the two similar branch shapes at two thirds height.

Re: Multi trunk shimpaku
Update.
Pulled together and tightened some growth.
Lowered apex and lifted tail little as well.
Still lots of growing tips to teach out to silhouette and should fill out nicely I hope.
They are a slow tree however.

Re: Multi trunk shimpaku
I like this one Grant. I guess the important thing now is to keep the floliage thinned out enough so we can continue to see the branch structure and at the same time avoid creating litlle pompoms all over the tree. Lots of concentration and detailed wiring I'm guessing? Very nice natural feeling to this tree.
