Post by Redsonic »

Hi Guys. This tree grows beside a path near me (Brisbane) and I was wondering what it is?

Hey mate,
Pretty sure it's common name is Corkwood.
Cheers, luke

Thanks Luke. A little searching for Corkwood found the culprit: Mellicope elleryana, The Pink Flowered Doughwood, or Evodia.

Wikipedia

It is also known as a butterfly tree. Loved by the Ulysses butterfly apparently:

I have just got rid of one of these. It would not shoot low down and always grew very vertical. It is a rain forest tree. I got it as tube stock at least 15 years ago. It never flowered.

Nice flowers though. I would give it a go if I have the stock.
Always we hope someone else has the answer.
Bonsai is an art of shrinking.
