Nectarine for Bonsai or not

Post by alpineart »

These are a few of the collected trunks "sticks in pots" that i have decided to try as bonsai starters . Found growing in blackberries the trunks are excellent thanks to the continued grows of the vines . All trees were between 1-2 meters high ,the trunk potted was collected 1 week prior to the others and has leaf burst and set new buds lower down the trunk . The others should make move after potting ,the roots were pruned to the extreme limit so only the required shoots will be kept .Cheers

alpine some nice shapes there. beautiful as blossim trees! growth is course, foliage is large and they are a pain in the arse with all the ailments you have to protect against. leaf curl just to mention 1. but if one is dilligent in their care and is able to just enjoy the small window of glory in blossom, they are as good as any. :D

Goodonya AA!

Looks like some potentially nice material. If you can get past all the woes that Antonio rightly mentions, they should be some great little trees!

Thanks.

Fly.

Hi Fly , i love a challenge . At the age of 10 i was given instructions on how to prune fruit trees and left to my own devise . Big mistake from my Uncle , the old man nearly booted my ass when he arrived home to find all the trees were minitures "almost Bonsai " He eventually agreed they were the best trees in the area .Cheers

Hey Alpine

I am looking at purchasing a nectarine.
what are your thoughts on them as bonsai now?

Did you see that one on eBay? I want it but I don't think they live in the tropics.

Don't waste your time with this species. You will eventually end up throwing them away. Go for plum, crab, or ume.
Plant them in a garden and eat the fruit instead.
