To all aussie bonsai rugby fans (not in that particular order)
Somehow I think my chances have dramatically increased to get on of these pots to NZ thanks to the mighty All Blacks. What a game. If all my bonsai trees improve this year as the All Blacks, last night, I'll end up with some great specimens! What a game! Sorry, I start repeating myself. Then again, why should I apologize?.
Anyway, things are looking great in the bonsai department, still a wee ground frost this morning with chances of heavier frosts later in the week. I'll have to keep an eye on this and will probably need to put some trees inside for a few nights.
The Wisteria is just waiting with anticipation to pop. I have read some posts where some of you have trouble getting flowers on some Wisterias. Mine doesn't seem to have any problems with that and it does not get any specialized treatment. I have seen this in some gardens as well. Friends of ours have bought a number of Wisterias to grow up a pergola. Same varieties from same nursery. One of them doesn't flower. I think that this starts at the propagation stage of the Wisteria. I think that to get a good flowering specimen, you need to have to get good base material that has lots of "flowering buds" and minimal shoot or growth buds. There is a significant difference when selecting cuttings. I have seen this with some grape varieties where some vine cuttings are fruitful and others are not even though they come from the same mother vine.
I think that non flowering wisterias have been propagated from water shoots that just produce growth.
It would be possible to graft cuttings from flowering wisterias onto non flowering ones.
If the All Blacks do not give you something to think about, this probably does. Either way, don't loose sleep over it but.
Interesting to hear your opinion.
Thought I might see a post form you today Ah well there is allways cricket!
Wisterias in Sydney have finished so post yours when they come out please -)
Ken
Definitely no pots across the ditch. The immigration department is about to deport all of them back. If we cant sink them in Rugby, we'l just SINK them.
Well done
