wired branches overheating

Post by melbrackstone »

Hey everyone,

I'm in Brisbane, and it's STILL hot here, so I was wondering if I should be a bit more careful of my crepe myrtle being out on the baking deck in the sun with all that wire around the unprotected branches and trunk.

Howdy, I think the pot and soil will be more of a worry in the heat. Move the tree into the shade and soak with water. Check for ants when you move it. Forecast rain this afternoon. Bruce

Plants can suffer heat stress, pots can get very hot but I have never experienced wire getting hot or even warm to touch. If the wire is in contact with the tree the wire and the bark will be similar in temperature.
Q: Why are we all here?
A: Because we are not all there.

Ok, thanks Bruce and Gerard.

The plant has been in the same spot, in sun, (for half a day,) throughout the Summer, and as long as I water it every day it seems fine.

It's just that I've not left a plant with full wire and no top foliage out in the sun before... just had one of those panic moments where I thought the wire might be dangerous for the plant.
Hopefully the heat will break this afternoon.

Cheers
Mel

I have had trees wired throughout the year and never had any trouble with wire heat.
PS - I think you are bragging about the temp today!!
