Newb having a go at Tanuki

Hi all. Still a newb to bonsai and would appreciate any advice. I have decided to have a go at this technique and i am at the stage of putting deadwood with the plant. Just concerned about how to treat the deadwood to slow rotting. I have read countless ways to do it but am hoping to hear who else has done this and what worked for them.

Have a look at wood hardener as well, there was also something related to marine, which I cannot remember this morning. Have personally not tried these products, but would think a hardener would preserve the wood longer, especially near soil line. Search the web you'll find comparisons, might even be one here.

Yea have heard both options. Ive read that you use a butane torch on the deadwood first, then wire brush surface before using a wood hardener. Is that common?

Wasnt keen to use lime sulphur because has hoping to keep some of the deadwoods colour. Does it work better than hardeners?
