Aldi at the moment have good quality rectangular peg baskets for $2. I imagine they will be sun resistant. 19cm wide, x 15cm x15cm:

I can't see from the picture if these baskets have holes in the bottom. If they don't I would highly recommend putting holes in the bottom to assist drainage.

Yes Ray, the bottom has a section of holes about the same as the ones on the side.

So I picked up two colanders the other day, just general pasta type ones but they look about the right size so I can give them a go.
Anyway, having never used them before just wondering if my plan for use is about right.

I just picked up a small Callistemon and E. Gunnii as nursery stock and from my reading I should look at repotting the Cally now so was thinking to give it a prune back now and and root trim to fit the colander.
Is that the general idea or is the a good reason not to do that?

I'm not planning on ground planting the colander and will probably just use a generic soil mixed with gravel.
