This is probably not the way to go about growing citrus as bonsai.
I bought this many years ago, as it had a smooth graft. Problem is, it's a grapefruit and the leaves are normally massive.
After a hard hack it went into a bonsai pot for the first time this year. It's potted in pure pumice, as this avoids the complications of a ball of old mix at the base - I'll introduce some organics next year.
As you can see, after virtual defoliation the new leaves are actually quite small - also, surprise! surprise! flower buds for the first time. Still no real idea about a style that suits citrus - from the Japanese books there doesn't seem to be much attempt to make anything formal or particularly organised.
It's about 50cms nose to tail.

I think it's current style suits it well, the next question is IF it fruits will the weight topple it over? If you plan on letting it fruit

Cool.
I love fruit and flowering trees.
I would imagine a grapefruit would topple this one!
It would be cool to eat a fruit off your tree though!

One of the fabulous things about growing bonsai is as you get old and decrepit your trees get old and beautiful
