JBP Layering...?
Hi all ... What would be the best technique to improve nebari on JBP's...? I have a few which I think were originally tube stock (lots of roots crossing over & compacted). They are quite young and are about 1 & 1/2 to 2cm thick... was wondering if it is possible to ground layer, and if possible, would tourniquet method be the best bet...?

Re: JBP Layering...?
It is possible to layer JPB. In fact not as difficult as was earlier thought.
Your trees are quite young so what about untangling the roots? The roots of JBP don't usually grow together very quickly so it should still be possible to separate. If a few break in the process new ones will probably grow. Untangling seems easier and quicker to me but if that fails then resort to the layer????

Re: JBP Layering...?
Thanks Shibui... roots untangled...although took a very long time I'm pleased with the new placement. When untangling I lost quite a few of the fine fibrous roots. Have doused with seasol and will keep it up every 3-4 days(light mix). Is it ok to place back in full sun straight away or should I keep it in the shade for a while...?

Re: JBP Layering...?
I nearly always put my trees straight back on the bench where they were after root pruning and it does not seem detrimental. I think trees recover better when they have plenty of light and good growing conditions which is exactly why I put them in the sun to begin with but that may depend on your care and local environment - you need to make that call with your knowledge of your place and skills. Just don't let it get too hot or dry out too much for a few weeks. Note that I don't bother with seasol. I have tried and believe that it does not make any difference to growth or survival but you are welcome to use as much as you wish.
I have found JBP to be quite hardy so I would expect it to pull through.
