Thanks for the kind words,
I very rarely pinch juniper, as I have also been told this will weaken the tree. My pruning mostly consists of cutting back overly vigorous shoots to a woody section where other shoots will fill in the gap, and removing anything growing down or between the crotches of the branches/branchlets.

What I do when styling is treat juniper like any other tree and take everything back to 2's. It is time consuming but I think people can be tempted in to just placing branches with blobs of foliage when it comes to junis (expecially squamata) and this leaves them in a position where pinching the "blob" is the only way to return to any kind of structure.

When you take the branches back and develop pads with good bones you wont have such haphazard growth and the need to pinch
