Ficus Benjamine 16 years in progress

Post by Andreas »

Here is one of my older trees, 16 years in progression in the beginning I let it go the way it wanted, then I cut all unwanted branches close to the trunk. After a year I took of the foliage and wired. it continued with the same procedure as before, here the last stage before taking the foliage off. then the first back cutting starts. A closer look at the root system at the end.

An interesting trunkline Andreas. I bet they grow really well in your country. Be sure to keep updating.

Love the root pit half way up the trunk. Very unique.

I like it too Andreas. I wonder if it would be a better composition if it was shorter. Despite its strong lower trunk line, in the current in-leaf pictures I get the impression of instability. In the leafless photos we see a segment of trunk in the upper third that has no taper until the apex. It would take time but it might be worth rebuilding a new apex lower down this segment.

Yes Pasquale, you are right, I cut the root out that was over the trunk. Did the wiring and tomorrow I will put an air layer right above where the big eye is. Then let it stay until roots are formed, by the time all leaves are back roots should be there too. I don't wanna waist the top, that in itself makes a good tree. all the air roots in the eye will for sure catch on fast. Pictures will follow.
