Question about pots

I just saw a post on farcebook with lots of pots. The ones I've shared here are shapes that I always understood to be not desirable, because of the smaller rim and wider rootball area....simply because the trees can end up root-bound and difficult to remove.

What are your thoughts on this? Do people just cut the trees out if the roots fill up the larger area, and use that as the root pruning opportunity?

You would be able to lever the root ball out with the other end of the root rake.

I read on another forum that a grower uses polystyrene inserts to help change the shape of the base of the root ball. Maybe you can cut out inserts for the sides to help not over pot the tree too much?

I have a few that are wider under the rim like these
Just grab your knife and cut vertically around inside the rim and cut all the roots
In a normal repot, you woud cut them off anyway.

Nice tools, second ll do the job just don't loose em in the pile of soil and roots. I like the curved serrated ones as you can pull the root mass out of the pot as well as loosen and cut
