Hi Andeas, the white cotton ball looking stuff is moss mold, caused by over watering. You can't cure it to my knowledge. It should be removed if possible with fingers. If you can't remove it, you will have to remove the infected moss and replace it. If you don't remove it, it will spread to all the over wet areas. The white mold is also the cause of the black looking moss it is the next stage. Once you replace the moss cut down on your watering.
