Where to get fine pine bark in Brisbane?

Post by Pierre »

Hi everyone,
I am looking for the fine pine bark we find in almost all our playgrounds, but haven't been able to find a nursery around Brisbane... any idea?
Cheers

That is called Soft Fall and is available at most landscape supplies yards. Not cheap though - about $120 a cubic metre.

Thanks Tony. I haven't looked at the good landscape yards obviously. Now with the name, that's much easier

Thanks again.

Do you want the composted fine pine bark, or just plain pine bark? Apparently Centenary Landscaping sell the composted stuff, because that's what Tony Bebb suggested we use in our bonsai mix.

Hello Pierre,

That's correct, you need composted material for your potting mixes.
What you are holding in your hand should only be used for surface mulch, which slowing breaks down or composts on the soil surface over time.
If raw materials / wood is mixed into the soil, the wood will immediately begin to breakdown / compost which will drain the soil of the available nitrogen during the composting cycle.
Which will obviously have a negative impact upon your plants.
Not sure if it is clearly explained, but if you Google 'The Nitrogen Cycle' it may explain it better than i can.
Always use composted material in your potting mixes and never dig uncomposted materials into the soil, let nature break it down upon the surface, leaching the goodness / nutrients into the soil.

Anyway that's what Horticultural Studies taught me many decades ago.

Yep. Western Landscape Supplies also has these. Not sure about the other places but the one near Willawong tip allows us to just bring a bag and fill it up with shovels. They charge by number of shovels.

I don't know where Woodridge is but GCP have orchiata. The best pine bark available and many sizes. ''Precision'' and ''Classic'' is what you want

I just bought a bag of orchiata from Logan hydroponics at Slacks Creek. They sell smaller quantities (6L) on eBay.
