I think Mojo might be on to something here and went out and examined my Alnus Cordata and that was also very similar

i think mojo might be right there, the leaves and trunk are matching up to the alnus family, couldnt tell ya which sub it is though

Petra,
I'm more confused actually, the leaves scream to me Betulaceae (Birch) family which contains the Alders (Alnus), Birches (Betula) and the Hornbeams (Carpinus) but I can't find a match. The pictures of the trunk, the bottom one reminds me a lot of Photinia fraseri, but the leaves dont match that either. I'm stumped

i believe mojo's got it. oops should have read the 2nd page. at 1st it appears as alder but the bark is too light and there for leans more to birch :? :? :?
