This is a yellow Weeping crabapple planted in a Fergus Stewart pot. The pot was made pre-2002, when Fergus returned to Scotland.
Born in Aberdeen Scotland, Fergus Steward started his fascination with clay whilst still at school. Following his training in domestic ware he emigrated to Australia to begin work at the Beaufort Pottery in Perth. He established his own studio and woodfire kiln in 1984. Later he relocated to Canberra and co-founded the Strathnairn Ceramic Access workshop. Fergus continued his work until 2001 prior to returning to Scotland in 2002 where he continues to run workshops when not working in his own studio.
Early in his career, a Canberra Bonsai grower commissioned Fergus to make him bonsai pots. He was asked to develop glazes for the pots which matched pictures in a book which was about the Bonsai collection of Count Matsudaira. He was able to match the glazes and this pot is one of the commissioned pieces. All of his pots were fired at 1400 degrees centigrade.
His Facebook page is Fergus Stewart Ceramics.
