Shipping Pots from Japan?

Hi guys,

I am going to Japan in December and was wanting to go by the kilns in Tokoname while back packing. Due to having additional countries to visit I will not be able to lug around any pots that I purchase for the entirety of the trip.

Can anyone share their experiences with shipping pots back from Japan that they purchased there? I have a feeling this may be my only option...

Additionally is their anywhere else that can be recommended for the purchasing of Bonsai pots in Japan? I prefer small to medium trees so will not need to acquire anything too large.

I will be going to Japan with my partner so this will not be a purely Bonsai trip, but she is more than happy to come places with me

For small to medium size - ship by surface mail for best price (6-8 weeks delivery to Oz). You can add registered and insurance for peace of mind and tracking (but insurance can be a hassle to claim).
Double-box with plenty of packing to avoid breakages.

Yeah I always use surface mail when I ship back from Japan. They say it takes anywhere from 4 weeks - 12 weeks to be delivered.

I find if you go to nurseries too you can buy some great pots from there. Make sure you have a good look around cause there is always hidden gems.

You may be able to arrange with him to show you around some of the kilns in Tokoname(possibly with a good discount on purchases), then he also offers a packaging and freight service back to Australia. He boxes everything up very securely and provides you with 3 freight options and prices before sending them back. Definitely worth getting in touch with him to see what he can do.
