Re: Affordable Bonsai Turn Table

Post by Bonsaiforest »

My "Affordable bonsai table" was just something that I tinkered with over the weekend a couple of weeks ago when we had the really bad storms. I'm pretty happy with the result and have a very simple solution to lock it into place. Will post when complete.

Now on a more serious note...I have one of Peterb's turntable mechanism's, custom made to the specs that I required. It absolutely "rocks" and doesn't skip a beat with my huge maple, on rotation it's smooth as silk & locks into place with a couple of turns of the locking bolt. I currently have a piece of marine ply sitting on it as the top. The ply really doesn't do Peter's table mechanism the justice deserved, but does the job well & can be easily replaced when required.

Check out my post of Peter's custom creation...He can pretty much make anything to suit. I'm sure that there will be interest so send him a pm, it I'll definitely last a life time.

Grant Bowie's versatile table top (1st page), piano hinged to raise height & change viewing angles while working on your tree. Then scroll through to 2nd page to see a similar mechanism to the one that Peterb made for me (this one's on legs) Enjoy..........

What if you just had a base the same size as the top, then have a ring lock like on a 40 gallon drum fixed around the outside that you could tighten when you want it locked. Here's a picture if you don't know what I'm talking about.

Pearcy.

Thanks for the great idea Pearcy...will keep it in mind. Just a little concerned that the ring would eventually wear on the sides of table top. Would probably have to cushion it with some rubber strips.

Cheers

Contacting some non-slip Matt would do well. I think the bigger problem would be fixing it to the base while it can still be in contact with the top? If you can find one quite thick then it would be fine.

Simple fix ... for the break couldn't you just use the end of a door stop or a rubber chock .
Secure it to the base and run a tether to the stopper do you dont lose it when you pull it out ... presto can lock and unlock in any posisition .???
