PJ Fig - Fat Boy

Hi Guys

The progression would start 2011/2012

This a fig that would need a lot of work to clean the base up taking off crossing and tangled roots and then replacing them with ground layers for flare and to cover the void left at the back of where a piece of sandstone was removed.

My priority would be the base and then branch placement then later the ramification.

I would bring the the container/pot size down to the present which is the right profile/depth but needing to come down in size by half to one pot size in area I feel,but staying with this area of pot for now to the last ground layer has taken as I lost one and needing to get it back.
The tree is now all but... just needing the correct pot soon,a journey but a result I like ...cheers Anthony

Really does look great all wired out Anthony. Can I ask how big the base is? Looks like those sacrifice branches growing up in the second photo really paid off.

Hi Pearcy

The base is 220 mm wide and height 270 mm.

The sacrifices that you are alluding to are actually ground layers they will be sacrificed as such,they are actually shoots that are grown long to go into the medium and buried with leaves removed and come out the other end of medium to extend till roots have established where the leaves that have been removed root,then the growth extending is removed......they are only there to promote basal trunk flare(visible surface root in other words).

A great result Anthony and inspiring to see how quickly you can develop these buggers. A little more difficult down here but still doable. Makes me want to go and work on mine but still to cold here.

The weather helps greatly up here,while the weather is not always kind your way for figs,I must admit your maples in good old Vic are probably the most beautiful and hard to beat as Bonsai,,,cheers my friend
