Grape vine dig

Hi all
I had 2 grape vines in my yard for 2 to 3 years. The oldest one was not doing so well very winter it would kill back a few branches. The youngest one my husband hit with the whipper snipper but survived.
I heard you could bonsai them so dug them up I had to do it quickly as it was getting hot. So sorry no progress photos.
They are sitting in compost in water inside to help with the wilting.
I hope they survive.
Is there anymore I can do to them to help with the wilting?

Not much you can do perhaps some seasol in the water. And trim the branches if they are long. These should have been dug up during winter when they were bare.

Yeah I should have done it back then. I honestly thought it was dead in winter. I brought back a yesterday today and tomorrow plant with hardly any roots I dug up so I'm hoping with ALOT of TLC the grapes will do the same. I have a red and white grape

I did forget to ask. Are the grapes still edible when you bonsai a grape vine?

If the grapes were edible before bonsai they will still be edible after. Very little changes when you bonsai. Leaf size is the major change. Flowers stay the same size. Fruit taste and size stays the same. Difficult to tell from the pic I would pot up your grape and put it outside in the shade protected from wind. Water with seasol until you see new growth then you can fertilize. With grape if the roots stay alive they will reshoot next season.

I did cut all the new growth back and left like 4 leaves on the bigger one. I will feed with seasol till I see new growth as it has a heap of buds about to burst. The small one didn't suffer any wilting. [VICTORY HAND] fingers crossed that they both survive.

I'm not sure they have survived. They are just sitting there doing nothing as far as I can see. I did go and buy another grape from bunnings. But if both of the ones I dug up survive I have a problem. I still give them seasol even few days and water and keep them out of this really anoying heat

I would totally defoliate them both now ( woud havfe done so at dig time.
Do a bark scratch and see if any green under it. If so then you are all good.

I did all that. It's still green under the bark. Do they normally take a long time to bounce back?

Yep they can do.
I have a crepe myrtle still sulking after 3 months since potting

My hopes are high as I found 2 buds on the larger of the 2 this week. Still a long way to go yet. My little white grape is not showing signs of recovery.
