Flowering Hawthorn

A little while ago I posted a few photos of a plum through its flowering period, and so not to leave out a fabulous bonsai subject - Hawthorn - I thought it a good idea to do a similar thing for one of my Hawthorn.
This season all my Hawthorn flowered (a couple may have had only one flower, but that still counts) and the display has been very pleasing.

Mel, you need cold winters (with frosts) to grow these successfully. Maybe not the frost, but definitely some cold weather.

Beautiful flowers , great work Watto...I have collected a few from the highlands but they just did nothing on the coast. Probably something to do with my skill levels.... Cheers John.

John, from a mad collectors point of view I think many trees take time to aclimatise to their new environment and so patience is the key.

Nice. I kind of like the look of the piece in the first (back) pic. I think you should think about using some of those low shoots in the design too? A very unique specimen.

Mike, thanks for your thoughts. This bonsai is now on its third preferred viewing side, and the the view you prefer was the first one, so there are many possibilities.
Your comment on the lower branches is also interesting because they were there, and now they are not, but more will grow.

When you get the opportunity to dig from the wild, the trees available often "break the rules" and that is what makes them unique. I don't know how old this is but it was dug about 5 or 6 years ago I think and knowing the environment where it was dug from, it could be 20 to 35 years old but I would only be guessing.
