[ID] some form of ficus?

Post by Stewart_Toowoomba »

Hi all

I got this tree from the local nursery and they couldn't say what sort of fig it was. As you can see it was ina fairly sick stae. I gave some weak fert and nursed along till the regrowth was coming along an then gave it the chop.

Any idea what it may be? It was getting some form of flower type growth and the budding is quite distinctive.

There may be a member out there who can offer some ideas as to it's identity.. :fc:

I'd say it isn't a fig. But I'm not too confident. Maybe a laurel?

Photinia robusta of some description. Many cultivars sold for hedging purposes with names like 'Super Hedge'. Can produce nice bonsai.

Well dahhhh to me then!

The nursery man was an apprentice and we got it out of the fig section so i just thought.....

Has anyone else tried to bonsai a photinia?? Am i pushing it up hill??

I'll see what happens to it - i wonder if the leaves will reduce at all?

Cheers

Stew
