Hi everyone,
Well it’s 8:30pm here in Osaka and we just returned to the hotel after a big day out. It’s a national holiday today (Wednesday) here in Japan and, you guessed it, thousands of people everywhere.
Today we went to one of Japan’s most famous shohin bonsai nurseries, in Kyoto, run by the Masumi family.
As I am running out of hours in the day, I will post photos of the Taikan-Ten and of the shohin nursery in coming days.
Tomorrow we will visit another two bonsai nurseries - Fujikawa nursery where Bjorn did his apprenticeship and Yosho-en nursery in Ikeda.
I will also be posting photos of Japanese and Chinese antique bonsai pots that were on display at the Taikan-Ten. These pots were quite large but, unfortunately, it is difficult to gauge the true size of the pots from these photos - they ranged from 300mm to 700mm high and were very impressive.
I hope you enjoy them.
Lance

Thanks Lance, impressive large pots, but I would love to see some Shohin pots if that's possible.

Re: Antique Bonsai Pots At The 2016 Taikan-Ten
Wonderful creations, and very interesting that they are so colourful and full of images. It makes you realise that the subdued, restrained ideal we have for pots now is not necessarily the only way to go about it. Matching a tree to those pots could be a nightmare, but it's not a problem I'll need to face in the real world. Sigh.
