Top 5 Japanese Maples And The Winner At The 2016 Taikan-Ten

Post by SLR5000 »

These are the five Japanese maple trees in one display which are said to be the best five maples in Japan and they belong to one collector. Bjorn told us that this collector tries to have the five best trees.

The overall best tree at the exhibition was this shimpaku, and it was a stunning tree. The height would have been 1200mm's.

This my last posting regarding the bonsai trees at the exhibition.

I hope to post some photos of the accent/companion plants displayed at the exhibition, shortly.

I hope you enjoy these last trees.

Wow that's a pretty brave claim. 5 seconds on google and I found what I consider better trees than those. Don't get me wrong they are still masterpieces but the best? Debatable.
You can only really see the quality without leaves but calling #4 one of the best for example, is crazy.

Wow. Thanks again Lance for posting these.

Is anyone able to comment on the scrolls and their connection to the trees? They're not the usual seasonal themes you see.

Matt.

Correction!!!
Treeman is right in his comment. I forgot to say that these 5 Japanese Maples belong to the Acer palmatum Kiyohime species.

They are a special dwarf leaf variety of Japanese Maple and that is why they are considered to be the best five of that species in Japan.

You have to stand next to one of these magnificent trees to see how great they are, e.g. the overall size of the tree, the smallness of the leaves, the thickness of the trunk and the branch ramification.

Sorry for the confusion.

That makes sense. I thought maybe they were shishigashira.
