Myrtleford horticultural show 2016

Post by alpineart »

While this was delayed by a month due to wet weather it was still a good day out for the Albury Wodonga Bonsai Club

. Entries for the 6 categories were down on last year  and no display or demo work as usual due to being time poor and an injury from hard yakka  .
With the numbers of show goers was down considerably it was still a worthwhile promotion of Bonsai in the district . I think I might have to bring the big Stihl out and rip a few down , some of these are getting a bit too big and heavy to cart around .

Many thanks to Neil for another worthy challenge in the Comp' and to the members of the Bonsai club for their support and attendance on the day .

Cheers Alpineart

I like the maple in the first pic myself,

As Alpine said, 6 separate categories for the comp - Single trunk, multi trunk or group, cascade, native, flowering and under 25cm. That Japanese maple was given 2nd in the multi trunk category. The forest with the blue ribbon took 1st in that class. (blue ribbon is actually for most successful exhibitor in potplant sections, not for that bonsai)
Ian must still be a bit tired - he's given us the groups twice :palm: Is there a photo of the natives Ian?

Hi mel , Shibui is a worthy opponent when it comes to any show be it horticulture and or Bonsai :tu2: .

Hi Watto , there's a couple of Maple groups but Shibui took out the prize this year

Hi kc it was a good effort considering . Shibui's Japanese Maple was a bit ratty but it claimed second prize for best Multi trunk /group , his Trident Maple group conquered the class :hooray:

Our efforts in promoting Bonsai at local shows is paying dividends with the interest stirred up in the community and laying to rest many myths . This show tops off another workshop and demo done by Alpineart in Henty a few weeks ago . It was a good turn out and an invitation to return next year to repeat another workshop and demo for the Henty and Culcairn Horticultural Societies

Cheers Alpine .
