Pruning Japanese Black Pine

We have been down to Hiroshima to do some sightseeing and, naturally, if there is a Japanese garden around, we have to pay a visit.

These gardens are called Shukkeien Gardens and when walking around I came across these two Japanese gardeners pruning black pines.

For those who have visited Japan, they will know that you see black pine in parks, and front and back yards everywhere in Japan and they are all trimmed up with their pads. Just think, nearly every living thing in Hiroshima is no older than 76 years, since the devastation after the Atomic bomb.

A lot of work goes into looking after these pines.

Just something a bit different.

I will post some more about the trees and the old bridge in these gardens (less that 1,500 metres from the actual hypocentre), that survived the blast mostly intact.
